Law Enforcement Directive

Law Enforcement Directive - Directive (EU) 2016/680 (the LED), which governs processing by competent authorities for criminal-law purposes not covered by the GDPR; implemented in the UK by Part 3 of the Data Protection Act 2018.

Law Enforcement Directive in context
- Alongside the GDPR, the EU adopted the [[Law Enforcement Directive]] (LED) for processing by criminal-law authorities - in force ==5 May 2016==, with transposition due by ==6 May 2018==. (Related legislation: LED & ePrivacy)
- In ==January 2012== it published two proposals: a [[regulation]] (the future GDPR) and the [[Law Enforcement Directive]]. (Reform of the EU framework and the road to the GDPR)
- Agreed alongside the GDPR, the [[Law Enforcement Directive]] (Directive (EU) 2016/680) governs personal data processed by criminal [[law enforcement]] authorities, replacing the ==2008 Framework Decision==. (Law Enforcement Directive (LED))
