UK GDPR
CIPP/E glossary · Last reviewed: · By Victor Humenhuk (CIPP/E certified)
UK GDPR - The GDPR as retained EU law in the UK, amended by the 2019 Exit Regulations (e.g. references to the EU/SAs replaced with the UK/ICO).
In the CIPP/E body of knowledge, UK GDPR comes up under Ch 1.9 - Brexit, UK GDPR & adequacy; Ch 17.1 - Internet tech overview.
UK GDPR in context
- After Brexit, withdrawal legislation repealed the [[European Communities Act 1972]], converted the GDPR into the [[UK GDPR]] (retained EU law, amended by the 2019 [[Exit Regulations]]) and consolidated it with the [[Data Protection Act 2018]] so the position stayed ==substantively unchanged==. (Brexit and UK data protection)
- A key framing point: after ==Brexit==, the [[GDPR]] became [[UK GDPR]] and the [[ePrivacy Directive]] was already in UK law, so UK and EU law remain ==broadly equivalent==. (Introduction and scope)
