Proposed EU Artificial Intelligence Regulation

On 21 April 2021 the Commission published proposals for an AI Regulation, with fines of up to 6% of annual global turnover and new rules and prohibitions for high-risk AI systems. It was still at proposal stage, awaiting Parliament and Council review.

The Commission published the AI Regulation proposal on 21 April 2021, arguing the EU ‘must act as one' on AI. It introduces rules and prohibitions for high-risk AI systems and proposes fines of up to 6% of annual global turnover - higher than the GDPR's 4%.

Don't confuse the fine caps

The proposed AI Regulation tops out at 6% of global turnover. The GDPR's top tier is 4% (or €20m). These are different instruments.
